Thanks for this.

Allegedly, this song is about Rod Stewart who had been one of the best and most respected rock vocalists among fans, who had since (by the time this was recorded) gone all to disco. This is actually a co-write - Sting/Copeland. I'm not sure about who wrote the lyrics, but it's interesting that the accusations of being a "fallen hero" could well have been applied to Sting in the ensuing years, with the additional irony that Sting would eventually record with Rod Stewart with a song on which Bryan Adams also appears - the execrable "All for Love" from the Three Muskateers soundtrack.

Thanks again for the great clip - I'd never seen that footage before.

I'm pleased to see more coverage for Kimya. Dawson's nothing if not genuine and she is definitely incredibly gracious and terrific in person as well. I did an interview with her on my own wordpress site
MonsterFresh.com not long ago if you are interested I reading it. It was really interesting an informative; even, fairly hilarious at times.

Thanks

Thanks for the album recomendations, I'll look them up at my local dealer! I've listened to a few songs by Kings of Convenience and I quite like them. Love The weight of my words and I don't know what I can save you from.

I rarely listen to lyrics in songs. I go mostly on the delivery of a song, and sometimes a few lines of lyric. Which obviously can be misleading. I think the prime example is how the stalker anthem Every breath you take turns into a love song for alot of people.

Also I associate events from my life with the music I was listening to at the time, and Nick Drake has only associations from a time I don't necessarily want to forget, but being reminded of it breaks my heart.

Thanks for reading my blog. I hope you've found some new music!

Y' know, I don't find Nick Drake's music to be depressing at all. It can be sad. But, not depressing. Overall, I find that there are a lot of his songs which are humourous and hopeful as well. "From the Morning", "Poor Boy", "Thoughts of Mary Jane" are all about sunshine and rainbows. It's just Drake's overcast delivery which makes them sound gloomy. Maybe it's because I love autumnal sounds that makes Drake's music so uplifting for me personally.

If you like Five Leaves Left and Nick Drake in general, there are a couple of albums you should hear if you haven't already: Neil Halstead's Sleeping on Roads and Kings of Convenience's Quiet is the New Loud . Both seem to share something of Drake's approach, and spirit.
